How Non Alcohol Hand Sanitizer Is Better Than Alcohol Hand Sanitizer

Alcohol stops working in seconds, but the FDA recognized active ingredient permitted for use in non alcohol hand sanitizer (benzalkonium chloride), which is a quaternary ammonium compound, lingers on the skin and benzalkonium chloride retains residual germ killing power several hours after use as a hand sanitizer [1] – this residual germ killing power was tested and documented in a peer-reviewed study published in a prestigious medical journal.

Alcohol hand sanitizers contribute to and aggravate hand dermatitis (skin inflammation). Occupational hand dermatitis may occur in up to 30% of healthcare workers and their frequent use of alcohol hand sanitizers is a concern.
